I don't know what they use that for in making wine, but it looks like it would be an awesome tool for toasting marshmallows over a campfire. S'mores for all in one shot!
Perhaps over the same fire where you toast the barrels?
The "thing" is about 20 inches between the tips of the "barbeque irons" and it is all mounted on a stick that is about 8 feet long.
