Brown or Brane?

One needs to keep apart Chateau Cantenac Brown and Chateau Brane Cantenac in Bordeaux. Physically, they're not far from each other in Margaux. Architecturally, they're worlds apart.

Chateau Cantenac Brown is in the commune of Margaux in the Medoc region in Bordeaux. It is one of the "classified growths", classified as a troisième cru (third growth) in the ancient classification of 1855. The vineyards extend over some 54 hectares, mostly around the chateau in the Cantenac area. It is planted with cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc. The chateau itself is one of the more unusual of the grand Medoc chateau, built in brick (or at least it looks as if it were) and more looking like a British mansion rather than a bordelais wine chateau.

This is a very fine establishment in a stunning part of beautiful France.
I was fortunate enough to live here at the Chateau in June 1997 and am grateful to the vignerons and the management for showing how the wine is made and all of the preparations they undertake.
Most impressive of all of course was the wine and the care the staff took of the ancient vines.
It will always live in my memory as one of the best places I have experienced in my life.
One day, Chateau Catenac-Brown I will return.
