Ribeauvillé is one of the most picturesque villages in Alsace, visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. It is in the Haut-Rhin department in Alsace, between Colmar and Strasbourg. It has a population of around 5000.
As many Alsatian villages and small towns the centre is the main street that is lined with cafés, shops and wine sellers. There are many half timbered houses, often painted in bright colours. On the main street there the belfry tower called the Butchers’ Tower stands tall. In the shops along the street you can buy some of the local specialities: patisseries, foie gras, charcuteries etc. They have also a very lively market. If you are lucky you may also see some storks nesting on the rooftops.
Ribeauville lies on the Route de Vin (wine route) which will take you through the vineyards and up the hills in this charming wine region. Ribeauville is home to the well known cooperative wine producer, the “Cave de Ribeauvillé” and also to several individual wineries: Louis Sipp, Kientzler, Trimbach, Gustave Lorentz, and many more.
